Frequently asked questions

What is UIA?

Keren Hayesod-UIA is registered in accordance with Israeli law, as a public benefit company and non-profit organisation. Our executive, boards and committees bring together global leaders dedicated to supporting the People of Israel.

We are one of the four national institutions tasked with raising funds that support Israel’s national priorities as stated by Israel’s Prime Minister’s office and determined collaboratively by Keren Hayesod-UIA, The Jewish Agency for Israel and the Government of Israel. Keren Hayesod-UIA is therefore one of the official fundraising arms for the State of Israel.

Where do the donations go?

Funds go to the core budget of JAFI (The Jewish Agency for Israel), which is the national institution and our strategic partner that implements our humanitarian work, along with other projects as determined by the government of Israel, such as Masa and Net@.

How do I/we know that donations are being managed properly?

A volunteer/honorary executive committee and professional team in each state supervises our campaigns and the collection of funds. This committee is drawn from the business leaders of Australia, many of whom sit on the KH-UIA World Board of Trustees. We also have a lay board and professional staff from across country, most of whom are senior businesspeople and philanthropists. Further to this, a double audit of the organisation is performed in Australia and Israel, resulting in effectively four annual audits. UIA Australia’s overheads sit below 15%, which is well within the guidelines of the Australian NFP and Charities Commission of below 20%.

Will I get a receipt for my donation?

Yes, all donors receive a receipt by email. If you do not have an email address, we will post a receipt to you. Our preference is to communicate by email as this reduces our costs (so more of your donation goes to where it is intended) and is environmentally friendly.

Why do you hold events?

The aim of our events is to develop the relationship between our communities and the People of Israel, with a view to ultimately raise funds for Israel. Our events are an opportunity to showcase our projects and the importance of the work we do while also ensuring that no matter where you live, you have the opportunity to engage, be educated and  connected to Israel.

What is UIA’s political view of Israel?

UIA is a non-political, not-for-profit humanitarian international fundraising organisation with over 60 offices, in more than 40 countries throughout the world. The funds we raise are used to strengthen weaker communities, nurture disadvantaged and marginalised youth; encourage Aliyah, implement rescue operations and connect young Diaspora Jews to Israel and Jewish life.
