The General Division
The General Division is formed by the core fundraising initiatives of the United Israel Appeal in meeting the challenges and national priorities of the State of Israel by supporting the most vulnerable populations there. Our work is founded upon four major pillars – Aliyah (immigration) and Klita (absorption), education, strengthening the border communities and support for Israel’s most disadvantaged youth. We support programs such as Net@, Youth Futures, Educational Youth Villages, Absorption centres and more. Through these various programs, we are strengthening Israel’s future – OUR PEOPLE.
Established in 1956, the UIA has been active in Victoria for over 60 years. Our main Campaign period traditionally runs from end of February through to May each year and welcomes some 2,500 people to various events such as our Gala Dinner, Women’s Division brunch, YoungUIA sessions evenings and Community gatherings for our senior group. Through constant engagement and interaction with various age groups, we have developed strong relationships between our community and the people of Israel.
The General Division also incorporates smaller groups under our fundraising umbrella.
Community group targets the senior members of the community. We host a variety of events for them such as a weekly shiur, seniors outing, as well as fundraising and advocating in the wills and bequests areas.
The Shalom group is a small but hardworking group of Russian-speaking volunteers that canvass members of their community every year. These donors have been immigrants in Australia but have strong ties to the State of Israel.
Progressive Judaism Victoria Inc. (PJV) raises funds through the progressive trust to special Progressive projects in Israel. These projects are all screened and examined to ensure they comply with UIA’s requirements that all recipients in Israel are immigrants or refugees.
Keren Hayesod – UIA’s goal has been unwavering in its dedication to our cause for nearly 100 years, supporting Israel’s most valuable asset – OUR PEOPLE. UIA Victoria ensures that no matter what your background, where you live or what your age, you have the opportunity to be educated, engaged with and connected to Israel on a deeply important level.
