Here in the Sunshine State, we understand the importance of people. We know that it is people who help make nations stronger. This is why we remain committed to Israel's greatest asset: her people. It is the people of Israel who drained the swamps, built the roads and settled the land. The people of Israel, who staved off wave after wave of war, and cultivated peace with Egypt and Jordan. It is the people of Israel who transitioned from an agrarian economy to a hi-tech powerhouse and helped revolutionise the smartphones, computers and life-saving medical equipment that we use today.
But it is also the people of Israel who suffer. Poverty is widespread and for many who live on the periphery of Israel's cities, they experience a lifetime of dilapidated housing and crime. This is why Queensland UIA devotes itself to helping the people of Israel.
Queensland UIA brings together people from Brisbane and Gold Coast all the way to Townsville and Warwick to help further the lives of those in Israel who face serious hurdles. Building bomb shelters, sponsoring at-risk youth and feeding Lone Soldiers are just a few of the programs that we're proud to have helped. But we also help bring Israel to Queensland. Through our events and galas, we have helped all of Queensland experience everything that the Jewish State has to offer. UIA donors and volunteers are invited to hear from a range of fascinating speakers throughout the year, and everyone leaves our events impassioned to help those overseas.
However, we also make sure to bring Australians to Israel. Through our Annual Missions and UIA for a Day experiences, countless members of our community have been up close and personal with the Israel behind the headlines. They receive VIP briefings from top military and government officials, visited the holiest sites in all the world and seen UIA projects throughout the country. These missions give donors a unique perspective on the social, political and economic future of the world's only Jewish State.
UIA Queensland is proud to have stood by with the people of Israel through trial and tribulation, through happiness and hard times. We are pleased that we can continue this tradition of helping Israeli society's most pressure, rare and celebrated asset: her people.
The office is expertly maintained and managed by Hadas Palevsky who reports to the UIA QLD President, Dr John Skala.
